Compositions
Jesus Christ the Apple Tree (2020)
Scored for SATB voices a cappella, this setting of the beloved ancient text builds by verse from unison to homophonic SATB voices in verse four before returning to unison for most of the final verse. The E Dorian mode and gentle mixed meter contribute to a timeless quality.
Near the Cross (2019)
This delicate setting of the Fanny Crosby text with a tune by William Doane is an easy SATB anthem for any season, but would work particularly well during Lent or for celebrations of the Holy Cross. The piece features a solo on the first verse, a soaring descant on the final verse, and some exquisite harmonies that are accessible by most volunteer choirs.
How Can I Keep from Singing? (2021)
This arrangement of the beloved hymn by Robert Lowry was created at the height of the COVID pandemic for a virtual concert by the Berkshire Concert Choir in Pittsfield, MA. It features a flowing and moderately challenging piano part, occasional mixed-meter, and a roaring climax sure to thrill audiences. Community choirs and mixed-voice ensembles find it both challenging and rewarding.
Bread of the World (2020)
Celebrate Communion with this brief anthem for SATB a cappella by Scott Bailey. Homophonic in texture with a lovely solo at the conclusion.
